Paper deala with planning, organization and economy of 
large scale map production in Poland* The basic maps, depen 
ding on the degree of investment of mapped area are plot in 
the scales 1:500, 1:1000,' 1:2000 and 1:5000 by photogrammetri- 
cal methods* Particullar stages of map plotting are widly 
discribed* Analysing typical object /780 km v organization 
problems involving wise use of equipment and technical perso 
nnel as well as economical aspects of mapping are discussed* 
1* INTRODUCTION . 
The versitile, dynamic development of the national econo 
my creates the permanent need for the detailed maps* The specia 
lized needs of many departments /economic branches/ decided 
upon the necessity to compile a universal map, thus satisfy 
ing this multidepartmental need for the entire country* A pro 
gram of fulfilment and modernization of the engineering-econo 
mical map as a basic map has been undertaken* The basic map, 
depending on the degree of investment in the described area 
is mapped in the scales 1:500, 1:1000, 1:2000, and 1:5000, and 
composes according to the best sources, the scientific analy 
sis for the fulfilment of the many needs of the national eco 
nomy, in particullar connection with the development and rea 
lization of plans of city spacial management, the preparation 
and realization of investments, farming, foresty, water resour 
ces, as well as being connected with whole complex of problems 
concerning urban economy and ecology* The contents of the ba 
sic map contains information about spacial distribution of all 
kinds of geographical objects as well as elements of soils 
and land development* 
In the area of activity of Krakow District Geodesy-Carto 
graphy Enterprise,i*e* in the Krakow City Voivodship, Tarnow 
Voivodship and Nowy Sacz Voivodship, when encountered an out- 
of date maps which are not suitable for, modernization, usual 
ly a new map is produced which is most often in the scale of
